Drechmeria

Drechmeria W. Gams & H.-B. Jansson, Mycotaxon 22(1): 36 (1985)

Sordariomycetes, Hypocreomycetidae, Hypocreales, Ophiocordycipitaceae

Index Fungorum number: IF512028; 13 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 5 species with sequence data.

Type species Drechmeria coniospora (Drechsler) W. Gams & H.-B. Jansson

Generic description: see Gams and Jansson (1985).

Notes: Drechmeria was introduced to accommodate two hyphomycetes species: D. coniospora and D. harposporioides (Gams and Jansson 1985). Later, Spatafora et al. (2015) placed ten species (most of them are pathogens of protozoans) in the genus based on phylogenetic analyses, including species of Haptocillium and Cordyceps gunnii. Species of the genus infect protozoa and have crescent-shaped, helical condia (Gams & Jansson 1985, Spatafora et al. 2015). (Adopted from Hyde et al. 2020).
