Blackwellomyces Spatafora & Luangsa-ard, IMA Fungus 8: 345 (2017)

Index Fungorum number: IF820864; 7 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 7 species with sequence data.

Type species Blackwelliella cardinalis (G.H. Sung & Spatafora) Spatafora & Luangsa-ard

Generic description: see Kepler et al. (2017).

Notes: The genus was introduced to accommodate two species of Cordyceps based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses (Kepler et al. 2017). The asexual morph are Clonostachys, Hirsutella, Isaria, and Mariannaea species (Kepler et al. 2017). The genus infects insects and has irregularly septate ascospores that do not disarticulate into part-spores (Kepler et al. 2017). (Adopted from Hyde et al. 2020)
